Web Designer and Developer (13 month maternity leave contract)

 

Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada (CPA Canada) is the national body representing more than 190,000 professional accountants under a single Canadian designation. The new Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is valued for its financial expertise, strategic thinking, business insight, management skills and leadership. CPA Canada has consolidated the operations of three national accounting bodies: The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), the Certified General Accountants of Canada (CGA-Canada) and The Society of Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada). CPA Canada conducts research into current and emerging business issues and supports the setting of accounting, auditing and assurance standards for business, not-for-profit organizations and government. It issues guidance on control and governance, publishes professional literature, and develops certification and continuing education programs.

 

The Opportunity

Our Strategic Communications, Branding and Public Affairs Group is seeking a Senior Web Designer and Developer (maternity leave) to provide web design and front-end development support as we launch and establish CPA Canada web products across the organization.

Reporting to the Director, Marketing Services, this role is creative, usability focused and self-directed and responsible for designing, architecting and developing web interfaces and content architecture schemas that meet the professional standards of the organization and industry. This role is engaged in some or all aspects of web projects, from planning and concept development to implementation, testing, completion and maintenance. This role also supports various illustration projects including data visualization and infographics.

The Position

Specifically, the successful candidate will perform, but will not be limited to, the following duties:

  • Strategize, conceptualize, test, design and develop wireframes and web interfaces for the organization’s mobile and web projects in keeping with CPA Canada’s branding guidelines, web industry standards, accessibility standards, and usability standards including responsive web design.
  • Facilitate information sharing among target audience members to identify user requirements by researching and analyzing their needs, preferences, objectives, and working methods, and studying how they consume content, including data categorization and labeling.
  • Architect and perform usability sessions with key stakeholders and users to gain feedback on wireframes, mock-ups, and interface designs to validate the content strategy and usability of the interface design.
  • Provide design leadership and coordination in selecting, purchasing, and finalizing branded images to be used for the CPA Canada website, CPA Canada Member News email newsletter, and other internal web products.
  • Prepare and present web layout concepts, designs and front-end development to internal clients and gain approval from stakeholders/clients. Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships to facilitate and execute web projects with internal stakeholders to meet business objectives and deadlines.
  • Develop web design and front-end development specs documentation to assist IT staff in developing web projects to meet project specification, industry standards and best practices.
  • Gather, analyze, conceptualize, design and liaise with internal clients to create data visualization/infographics for distribution online, in print and in motion to enhance CPA Canada’s communication and marketing effectiveness.
  • Understand and facilitate compliance of CPA Canada Branding guidelines web products among web products across the organization.
  • Provide front-end web development expertise for web projects and email newsletters. Also provide Adobe Flash development support for legacy web products.

The Candidate

The preferred candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Minimum 2 years post-Secondary diploma or University degree in web design and development
  • 5-8 years of web design and front-end development experience including HTML, CSS3, and Responsive Web Design (JavaScript an asset)
  • Experience in creating wireframes, web process flows, and navigational flows
  • Experience designing and developing HTML Email Newsletters
  • Experience selecting images from stock imagery websites for web products
  • Proficiency in Adobe Web Premium Suite: Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks, Flash
  • Experience illustrating data visualization or infographics
  • Experience in translating customer requests and business requirements into specifications and tangible products
  • Experience managing client expectations and needs, and developing project plans schedules
  • Curious about and willing to learn new web technologies
