The Digital Commerce department at our Home Office in Toronto is currently recruiting for the position of Vice President of User Experience & Design reporting to the SVP, Digital Commerce.


 

The VP of User Experience & Design is responsible for directing the overall user-centered design of the Cineplex Store web site, desktop, mobile/tablet applications, and living room internet-connected device applications.  This team is chartered with bringing a cohesive design approach with creative consistency across customer touch points to deliver compelling movie experiences across the Cineplex Store.  This individual will be responsible for managing the interaction, visual design and usability testing teams for Digital Commerce within an agile/lean product development environment.  Bringing a passion for design and marrying it with a love of movies and internet technologies, this design leader will deliver a world-class movie entertainment experience to our Cineplex Store customers.   

 

Responsibilities

 

  1. Develop design strategies, principles and guidelines that drive innovation of the UI framework, information architecture, and overall user experience

  2. Serve as creative strategy lead by defining, approving, and enforcing consistency in look and feel, interaction copy, information design, content display, and overall navigation with best practices and standards

  3. Conceptualize experiences, lead collaborative brainstorming and drive innovative ideas to bring the multi-screen Cineplex Store entertainment vision to life

  4. Manage interaction, visual design, and usability teams and limited outside agencies as necessary while balancing hands-on independent creative contributions

  5. Own and drive design principles into all Store customer interaction points, including products and services across all platforms

  6. Develop best-in-class aesthetic design, consistency, and usability; ensure designs and customer touch points accurately reflect the Cineplex brand values and brand integrity

  7. Drive user-centered design processes within the business unit and leading teams in conceptual development

  8. Optimize UI and engagement performance through data-driven decisions and metrics analysis

  9. Develop prototypes and/or interactive wireframes to demonstrate IA structures and user flows within an understandable and compelling experience

  10. Collaborate across multiple disciplines including design, usability, merchandising and content, product management and development

     

Position Requirements

 

  1. At least 7 years experience in a leadership role as Creative Director or Design Lead for a consumer-based product/service, preferably within digital entertainment or digital media.  Online portfolio is required for consideration. 

  2. Bachelor’s degree in Information Sciences, Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Design, Interaction Design, Psychology, Human Factors, Business or related discipline

  3. Proven track record of owning or playing a majority role in the user experience/interaction design of consumer products, sites, and/or applications with top-level aesthetic design; digital media experience a plus

  4. Managed teams in a successful, growing consumer-focused organization and can prioritize initiatives with a strong customer value focus under tight deadlines

  5. Ability to conceptualize and define UI designs with aesthetic appeal and strong usability

  6. Expert individual design skills and ability to create original art.  Expert knowledge of multimedia and design software within a collaborative product development environment

  7. Knowledge of interaction theory and usability methodologies and user testing principles a plus

  8. Strong ability to understand customers from a user-centered design perspective, and articulate that to multiple internal audiences

  9. Ability to manage agencies and external design firms

  10. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, written and oral presentation skills.  Intermediate Microsoft Office proficiency expected

  11. Superior team development and management skills, experience with budget and timeline development

  12. Exceptional judgment and decision-making.  Ability to make decisions within a fast-paced environment, communicate rationale, and take action

  13. Must be resourceful, self-motivated, and able to be successful in a non-traditional, fun, entrepreneurial team-based environment

  14. Good natured, sociable, creative, and diligent individual who is driven, detail-oriented, and dedicated

  15. Experience within agile/lean development environments is a plus

  16. Strong understanding of internet-based digital movie/entertainment/media is a plus

  17. Individual should be passionate about movies!
