The Digital Commerce department at our Home Office in Toronto is currently recruiting for the position of Senior Visual Designer reporting to the VP, User Experience & Design.
As a key member of the team chartered with defining and designing world-class movie experiences, the Senior Visual Designer is responsible for the definition, design, and maintenance of the visual presentation across Cineplex Store products and services. This individual works closely with interaction designers, usability researchers, product managers, developers, and other visual designers to create compelling user experiences.
Responsibilities

Conceptualize, design, develop, and refine visual designs that are original yet both highly aesthetic and user-centric

Participate and collaborate in concept development and design ideation for solutions that can have a measurable impact

Work closely with Interaction design and Usability teams to develop iterative designs that meet user goals

Work directly with web/software development engineering on design solutions that ensure consistency with design vision and an overall superior user experience

Manage visual design look and feel across page layout and designs, color palettes, typography, iconography, and user interface elements while monitoring design consistency and visual integrity

Originate new concepts, strategies, or innovative approaches that support and enhance the visual integrity and overall customer experience

Deliver prototypes, mockups, demos for usability studies and lead visual design reviews

Champion best design practices across team and mentor junior designers
Position Requirements
-
Three to five years experience as a key member of a design team participating in the complete product development life cycle of a web-based product/service. Online portfolio is required for consideration.

BA or MA in Graphic Design, Digital Media Design, or Visual Arts

Strong understanding of user-centered design principles with the ability to address complex design problems and provide sound design solutions

Demonstration of strong design skills including screen layout, information design, and typography

Strong working knowledge of graphic and web design principles, graphic formats, and current web technologies

Advanced understanding of design software. Additionally, must have basic knowledge of object oriented programming and a comprehensive understanding of web application architectures. Film, video, and other motion graphics experience is a plus.

Ability to conceptualize and define UI designs with aesthetic appeal and strong usability

Knowledge of interaction theory and usability methodologies and user testing principles is a plus

Strong ability to understand customers from a user-centered design perspective, and articulate that to multiple internal audiences

Excellent organizational, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, written and oral presentation skills. Intermediate Microsoft Office proficiency expected

Must be resourceful, self-motivated, and able to be successful in a non-traditional, fun, entrepreneurial team-based environment

Good natured, sociable, creative, and diligent individual who is driven, detail-oriented, and dedicated

Experience within agile/lean development environments is a plus

Strong understanding of internet-based digital movie/entertainment/media is a plus
