GRAPHICS & PATTERN DESIGNER

Yabu Pushelberg is seeking a skilled Graphics and Pattern Designer as part of their Resource Team. This position involves the creation of unique designs that will complement and enhance the narrative to the design of our projects.  The candidate specializes in the development and production of pattern designs to be used in varying applications for interiors (carpet patterns & textures, fabrics, textiles, soft furnishings, etc.) and for possible development in other non-traditional mediums.   The role uses ideas and inspiration to demonstrate a clear perspective on pattern/textile/brand/product, as examples.  Integrates hand and computer skills to create original pattern designs exclusive to Yabu Pushelberg, for assigned projects and products that achieve overall creative objective(s). 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

          Maintain a strong sense of Yabu Pushelberg’s design aesthetic throughout all design endeavors.

          Creates unique colorways, layouts, pattern repeats, and a range of designs using specialist software. 

          Collaborates with the Interior and Industrial Designers to conceptualize graphic and pattern design for specific project and product needs.  Uses artistic ability to edit and make changes to original designs that integrate key feedback points from Creative Director and Teams.

          Collaborates with technical development and sourcing teams to ensure pattern design manufacturability and that they meet proposed objective price points. 

          Develops and executes delivery of Yabu Pushelberg project and product categories relative to pattern, in collaboration with design teams, to achieve overall design strategy, brand identity and aspiration strategy.  Concepts to include color, direction, print and pattern concepts and motifs, and silhouette direction.

          Stay abreast of trends through creative and other resources of inspiration in order to translate inspiration into various graphic and pattern types, as well as motifs.

          Actively participates in prototyping of completed items to facilitate continuous process improvements, and optimize all aspects of the development process. 

          Assist in the development of product designs that achieve overall product strategy and objectives.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

          3-4-year Degree in Graphic and/or other Design-related field i.e., fine arts

          5+ years’ experience in graphic design, preferably in an interior design environment or similar-related field 

          Fluency in current graphic design practices and production software, such as: Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) with basic knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D modeling software

          Ability to hand-draw designs

          Demonstrated high taste level and creative ability including strong color sense, pattern and motif development as well as related commercial ability, and market knowledge 

          Demonstrates strategic thinking and problem solving ability

          Work collaboratively, meet deadlines and work well under pressure
