Environmental Promotion and Protection Branch
Location: Newmarket, Ontario. This is a Union position.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: As Required and Varied; Operational Hours: 0830 – 1630
Casual/On-Call, Salary $37.92 – $41.22 per hour
Reporting to the Supervisor, Design and Communications, is responsible for simplifying messages behind environmental regulatory requirements to develop sustainable behaviours by residents and businesses; developing, designing, producing and distributing Departmental promotional material including, displays, newsletters, marketing and other material through hard copy publication and electronic media; leading project team to develop and maintain communication strategies, designs and format publications and establish standard document formats and design guidelines; providing communication advice to managers and staff in the use of standard design and communication guides; and working with Corporate Communications, when applicable, on projects and initiatives that may have implications for the Corporation.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Communications, Graphic Design, Marketing or a related field of study, or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in graphic design and/or community based social marketing, with exposure in both areas.
- Experience in writing, designing and publishing manuals, marketing publications, on-screen communication and web site content.
- Strong working knowledge of traditional and new communications concepts and technologies.
- <!–[endif]–>Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self-management, accountability, flexibility and adaptability.
- Well-developed presentation, verbal and written communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to apply the principles of communications and graphic design to support and enhance Department initiatives.
- Project management skills to lead a project or work group.
- Thorough knowledge and demonstrated ability in computer-based design and layout and knowledge of related software including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, Quark Xpress and MS Office software applications.
- Ability to travel to off sight locations in a timely and efficient manner, as required.
- Ability to work outside of regular business hours, as required.
